My name is Jim Robinson and I started developing and sharing recipes not only as a way to share my love of food, but to keep myself accountable as I endeavor replace a lifetime of poor eating habits with healthy new ones. My goal is to live and eat in a way that allows me to fully enjoy my life and be the best husband and father I can be.
On this website you’ll find hundreds of simple, seasonal recipes that are plant-forward and heart-healthy. If you’re new to cooking at home, we’ll help answer common questions to improve your kitchen skills & food knowledge. I’ll share my passion for edible gardening, and you’ll have the opportunity to get detailed evidence-based nutrition information directly from a Registered Dietitian.

My Story
I’ve been in digital media for more than 22 years, but recently, I felt a strong pull towards something new. I was on the hunt for a role that would meld my professional expertise with my personal interests. I found exactly what I was looking for in Healthy Green Kitchen.
Veggie gardening and cooking have been loves of mine for the majority of my life. But when I was recently diagnosed with heart disease, it served as a wake-up call to get serious about my personal wellness journey. I made significant changes to my diet, drastically reducing processed junk food and focusing on plant-forward, whole foods. This shift resulted in a significant reduction in my cholesterol levels and I was able to shed nearly 30 pounds.
My heart disease diagnosis has made my work with this website take on a whole new meaning. It’s fueled my enthusiasm for empowering others on their paths to wellness. Every day, I am reminded of my journey and am motivated to use this modest platform to inspire and support others in their health and wellness endeavors.
Today I live and work in the Appalachian Mountains of western Maryland. I prioritize my family time, but make time to get out in my garden whenever I can.
The Healthy Green Kitchen Approach
Here at Healthy Green Kitchen, we see clean eating as something that’s timeless, simple, and accessible. We don’t get bogged down in fads or following arbitrary rules. We want to celebrate food, both for the joy it brings and the power it has to make us feel better.
Michael Polen said it best: “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
We’re fans of homegrown and locally sourced. Minimally processed, organic, whole foods. We see the benefits that a plant-heavy diet has to offer but don’t believe in heavy restrictions. The key to a happy life and happy eating is balance.
Love to cook? So do we! We’ve got recipes for every step of the process from canning and dehydrating, to preparing epic meals from garden-fresh ingredients.
Short on time? We get that. We have plenty of quick and easy recipes that don’t sacrifice taste or nutrition, too.
And for those times when you’ve got so much going on that you can’t remember what day it is, let alone figure out what to make the family for dinner, we’ve got you covered. Here at Healthy Green Kitchen, you’ll find loads of healthy recipe idea lists to fit every occasion and every mood.
We don’t just love to cook and eat food though, we also love to talk about it! Is this ingredient really healthy? Can I grow this ingredient in my garden? We have the answers to all your green-living and food-centric questions right here.
Cooking good, healthy meals for yourself and your family shouldn’t be complicated. It shouldn’t require ingredients that have traveled across three countries and two oceans. And you shouldn’t need to read fifty books and have a PhD to understand what you should be putting on your plate.
Keep it simple. Keep it balanced. And keep it mostly green.
That’s what Healthy Green Kitchen is all about.
Website History
Healthy Green Kitchen is an amalgamation of two websites. As someone who’s fairly digital media savvy, it made the sense to me to start with an existing website(s) that already had lots of amazing recipes and content.
Healthy Green Kitchen was originally founded in 2009 by Winnie Abramson. Winnie’s work on the website culminated in the 2013 publication of One Simple Change: Surprisingly Easy Ways to Transform Your Life. Winnie continued to operate the website until I purchased in it 2021. You’ll still find lots of Winnie’s old articles in our archive.
A short time later, I made an offer to acquire Lauren Caris Cooks, a website featuring beautiful photography and delicious recipes. That website was merged into Healthy Green Kitchen, which helped to bolster our archive of healthy, plant-forward recipes.
This website is now fully owned and run by me, Jim Robinson, with new recipes and content added regularly.
